“I delight in elaborate wigs, hats, and fans. They draw attention to the wearer, are a mode of self-expression, a way to hide from scrutiny, or flaunt beauty and power. Making the object as wire sculpture reduces the work to its abstract form. It becomes a playful, gestural line drawing. . .
“By leaning into whimsy, the sculptures bring attention to the aspects of the wearers that make them feel valuable for their skill and wisdom in a society whose emphasis on youthfulness often make them feel overlooked.”
